Summer adventures.

How can I possibly describe this week. I can't. I am no good with words, I never have been.
But what I will try to get across is how lucky I am to have such great friends.
It has been two years since I have seen this girl.
Katie Cooper was the first person I met in my dorm. She lived across the hall. Later I found out that her first impression of me was, oh no… her room is really PINK.
That is really funny and the memories have just continued to get better. Like today when we got to spend the entire day in San Fran, and see the sites and craziness of this beautiful foggy city.
Like I said before this lovely, strong, beautiful, smart, amazing girl got off her mission a few months ago, which made it a total of about 2 years since I had seen her, how desperately I needed this girl during those two years. But we are now reunited!!! It feels like we haven't even been apart. That shows true friendship.

Not only did I get to see one of my bests, I got to meet her older sister. She kind of took Katie's place when I needed advice, words of wisdom, and some one to be with me over the phone in some frightening times.  Michelle also filled Katie's shoes when I desperately needed a friend. In fact one lonely night, I prayed, I don't even remember what it was exactly that I prayed for, a friend maybe; and seconds later Michelle called. She's been a blessing in my life and has literally answered my prayers.

I did not know it was possible to pack in anymore adventures and joy than I had had so far, but it continued to get better. I also got to see two of my very best friends that I had not seen in about a year. These two guys are amazing men, but I will start first with Brian. Brian is one of the wisest people I have ever known and lights up every room he is in. He can see when people are troubled and cares so much to help them thru it.
There was this one time we went snow boarding at night. It was icy and I'm not the best snowboarder so I was by the fire and B took a break because his boots were wet. Next to us was a dude who had hurt his leg boarding earlier. This guy was just waiting for his friends to finish their last run so he could go home. When those friends finally came around and said hey buddy we are done. The hurt guy tried hobbling to the car. Before this guy has gone 2 feet, B was under his shoulder and helping him to the car. That is why I know Brian is going to make an unbelievable missionary in Indiana. He helps people where ever he goes. I am grateful he has helped me so much in my life.

Now another joy was seeing my friend Isaac. B introduced us after Isaac got off his mission. I was afraid Isaac wasn't going to like me, but we were friends instantly. Isaac is such a genuine guy and so very funny. Big I is always there for you, and he has a listening ear better than most. And whenever Big I is around you know you are going to be having a good time with a good laugh. He really is just an awesome guy.
Even know B, Isaac, and I  no longer run in the same circles and I rarely see these great guys, it's nice to know that good friends are there. I love both of these them so much.

I am one lucky girl because I got to hang out with the entire Sorensen gang. Especially, Katie Sorensen, the most adorable girl ever. What I love most about KK is that when she laughs, she laughs with her soul. I love that she is a reader, she has inspired me to read more. But more importantly she is so sincere and such a sweet and loving person, I am lucky to know her because she is a joy and a burst of sunshine. She too will make an outstanding missionary when she goes. Carol and Kent sure do know how to raise outstanding kids.

I am so grateful for the Sorensen family. I have never felt so loved by people outside of my own family. The kindness they have shown me blows my mind. There was a time in my life where I felt so alone and completely forgotten, but they wrote me. They remembered me. They've invited me into their home on numerous occasions including Thanksgiving. I am grateful that they let me be apart of this special day as well, witnessing Brian being set apart as a missionary and hearing his farewell talk at church. Us Brock's are a family of girls and so we don't get to witness too many missionary setting aparts. It meant a lot to us.

My vacation isn't over yet, which makes me happy because I am not ready to go back to the Arizona heat. I love it here in California, the weather is so beautiful and the trees. The trees. I love the trees. More adventures are about to come. But man, I have such great friends.

  1. Wow Rachel, you have such a way with words and this post really brought tears to my eyes. Darn, I almost made it through my first day in a week without shedding a tear! We love you, and always will.
